Valdyas is a fictional country in a fictional world. Ilaini is an invented language. I invented it for my own enjoyment and that of anybody else who enjoys it. It has no scholarly pretensions. Please don't make a fool of yourself by using my language pages for your linguistics case-work.

There are three classes of nouns; four if we count the mixed class that has forms of both Class II and Class III.

Class I

Words ending in:

-a
-e

-ea
-ie
These diphthongs are caused by the stem ending in a palatal consonant.
-i
-iei
Mostly personal names. The only known instance of -iei ("stressed i") is Riei.
-ay
-ey
Mostly place names (-ey is very rare). All other words in -y are Class III.

Class II

Words ending in:

-an
-en
-in
All words in -an; most monosyllabic words in -en or -in are Class II-III.
-as
-is
Theoretically also words in -es but these have not been attested.
-yn
-ys

-ath
-eth
-ith
-yth
Personal names of more than one syllable. Words of one syllable with these endings are Class III.

Class II-III

This mixed class combines Class II and Class III. It comprises almost all monosyllabic nouns in -en and -in, as well as craz and laz.

Class III

All other nouns fall in this class: those without an ending and those in -ain, even if a word in -ain is a contraction of a word in -ayen of Class II.

Cases

Ilaini originally had nine cases, but recent (within the past few hundred years) sound changes have caused long vowels to be lost and several cases have been conflated. Moreover, words of class I in -e and most words of class II have no separate vocative and the nominative is used instead.
